Evaluate the need behind the involvement

Often, prostitution tends to satisfy a more fundamental need. Although prostitution is often intended as a way to make money or obtain goods (e.g. drugs, food, shelter, clothing, cellphone, etc.), such activity satisfies basic needs that are being unmet. However, it is necessary to understand which needs are being met by prostitution.

For some young people, prostitution satisfies emotional needs and the need to belong. The need to feel loved and live a couple’s life can be so strong that, unfortunately, some people can be fooled and find themselves in a sexually exploitative situation.

For others, the need to be recognized and feel important can lead them into prostitution. Imagining oneself living a life of luxury, being independent, “calling the shots” and wearing the nicest clothes can also lead some people into a sexually exploitative situation.
